Eduardo Schwart is a Brazilian jewelry designer. Currently he resides in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His family is originally from Poland and Belgium. When World War II was about to break out, his family came to Brazil.

Since he was a youngster, he knew he wanted to be a professional artist. His great inspiration was his grandfather David who had worked as jewelry designer in Antwerp (Belgium) and in Brazil. Because of his influence, Eduardo has been working as a jewelry designer since he was very young. He designed his first jewel 25 years ago. His passion for art and jewelry led him to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Design in Brazil (Faculdade da Cidade University). Shortly after starting his graduation, a project called UniversidArt selected his Fabergé-inspired jewel to be exhibited at the Brazilian National Museum of Fine Arts. Later, he designed a ring named Arcos da Lapa commissioned to an official Brazilian event to celebrate Rio de Janeiro City. Throughout his career, he has attended several courses on Gemology and Design.

Currently he works full time as jewelry designer. He designs and creates from home. Eduardo does everything on his own to promote his artwork: social media, product photography and social network. He hopes to continue learning, creating and designing for many years to come.

Tell us a bit about yourself and background.

My name is Eduardo Schwart and I am a Brazilian jewelry designer. Currently I reside in Rio de Janeiro, a seaside city in Brazil with my wife Simone and my dog Billy. My family is originally from Poland and Belgium. When World War II was about to break out, my family came to Brazil.

My great inspiration was my grandfather David who had worked as jewelry designer in Antwerp (Belgium) and in Brazil. My passion for art and jewelry led me to a Bachelor’s Degree in Design in Brazil (Faculdade da Cidade University). Shortly after starting my graduation, a project called UniversidArt selected my Fabergé-inspired jewel to be exhibited at the Brazilian National Museum of Fine Arts, which made me very happy.

Currently I work full time as jewelry designer.

What inspired you to become a jewelry artist?

I have been creative all my life. I always knew that I wanted to be an artist for a career. My great inspiration was my grandfather David who showed me that working with jewelry is a wonderful experience. Because of him, all my life I have been in contact with art and jewelry.

How and where do you work?

I design and create from home. First, there are a lot of planning, thinking and brainstorming. I like to begin my creative process sketching the artwork on a piece of paper. Then I design the jewel on my laptop. I have to select materials, like gold, silver, precious and semi-precious gemstones and think of their sizes, shapes and coloration. After I finish the design, I go to a jewelry workshop (the same that I have been working for more than two decades), which have the necessary machinery and goldsmiths I can work with.

In my opinion, being involved in jewelry creation from initial concept to finished piece is an incredible journey!

Currently, I do everything on my own to promote my artwork. I work with social media, product photography and social network. I like to create my own Facebook/Instagram photos background graphics, templates and themes since I consider relevant to tell the story behind a jewelry design.

What is the most indispensable item in your studio?

An idea, my laptop and my tools.

Where to you take your inspiration? Are you pursuing any themes?

It is valuable for me to ensure that a jewel evokes positive messages and feelings. Mostly, my inspiration comes from my admiration for arts, nature and Jewish culture. I am constantly inspired by various themes such as trees, flowers, animals, art movements, architecture, beautiful places I have visited and Jewish culture. Currently, I am studying art movements from the nineteenth and from the early 20th century, such as Impressionism, Post Impressionism and ArtNouveau. I have already designed earrings inspired by Paul Gauguin´s paintings of French Polynesia. In addition, I am creating a jewelry line inspired by ArtNouveau`s flowing style.

What projects are you currently working on?

Currently I am studying 3D Design and Laser Cut.

I consider myself an animal admirer so I have started a jewelry line featuring vulnerable and endangered species, like elephants and the blue macaw. It is crucial to shed light to the fact that global wildlife populations have declined substantially in just few decades and species are disappearing around the world faster than ever before.

What are your favorite items in your current collection?

It is hard to say which artwork is my favorite. I consider my Judaica Collection truly special because it connects me with Jewish culture and tradition and makes me feel closer to my great-grandfather, who was a Rabbi and a teacher in Poland, Belgium, Germany, and Brazil.

How do you know a piece is finished?

When it makes me smile! I consider myself a perfectionist. I know when a piece is finished when I do not want to change anything else and when I feel my customer will be glad with it.

Do you do bespoke work?

Yes. Actually, the majority of my artwork is bespoke work. It is a joy to create personalized jewelry designs. Bespoke work is an opportunity to challenge myself!

What was the first jewelry piece you ever sold?

I sold a golden ring with diamonds and Ruby to my mother´s friend.

Which project have you enjoyed working on the most so far?

I truly enjoyed working on my Versailles Collection. In addition, I consider my Animal Collection very special.

It is worth mentioning that working with social media, product photography and social network has been thrilling.

What do you want to achieve with your work and what are your wishes for the future?

I am optimistic about the future. I hope to continue learning, creating and designing for many years to come. I like to imagine where jewelry design can take me! I hope to continue expanding my business and sharing my art on platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

Where can we find your work?

I share my artwork through my social media pages on Instagram and Facebook. I sell my products locally but I also ship overseas.
